Having returned to racing in great condition this time in, talented Team Hawkes-trainer runner Mecir is currently outright favourite and clear market mover for success in the 2014 Scone Cup at a quote of $5.50, ahead of Destiny’s Kiss, Prince Cheri and Wistful; sharing the second line of betting at current $6 odds.

Can Mercir overcome a race-high weight of 58kgs and the awkward barrier 13 to win the 2014 Scone Cup, or will one of his talented rivals find the line in the clear?

1st

Wistful ($6)

Claiming four wins and four places form just 14 competitive starts to date, Wistful appears to be peaking at precisely the right time for success in the 2014 Scone Cup, and offers punters great value for money at current $6 odds. Overcoming disappointing performances in each of her first three race starts this preparation, the Tiger Hill mare was unlucky to finish second in the particularly well-contested Dunkirk Maiden (1600m) on April 25, and displayed a keen turn of foot to finish second to Leebaz in the Group 3 Hawkesbury Gold Cup (1600m) last time out. Allocated the ideal barrier 2, Wistful has been confirmed to be partnered by talented jockey Kerrin McEvoy and is a great chance of success on Friday.

2nd

Prince Cheri ($6)

Claiming four wins and two places from just nine appearances on track to date, Prince Cheri is likely to receive the run of the race after drawing barrier 3, one outside fellow leading chance Wistful. A standout performer over the 2013 spring, the Lando entire finishing outside the places just once; finishing third in the Calcoup Knitwear Maiden (1600m) and winning both the Ranvet 3.y.o. (1500m) and Group 3 Kingston Town Stakes (2000m) most notably before placing a competitive sixth in the Group 1 Metropolitan (2400m). Confirmed to be partnered by regular jockey Jay Ford, Prince Cheri offers particularly excellent value at $2.50 to run a place in the 2014 Scone Cup.

3rd

Said Com ($18)

While yet to break through for a race win in three starts this preparation, Chris Waller-trained Said Com arguably offers punters the best value for money at generous odds of $18 for a win, or $5.50 for a place. A leading performer over winter events in 2013, the O’reilly gelding finished third in both the Makinson Lawyers Handicap (1350m) and Listed Civic Stakes (1350m) and strolled home to win the Sydney Markets Limited Handicap (1400m) most notably. While allocated the wide barrier 16 for the Scone Cup, Said Com has noted experience in overcoming poor draws and is worth a wager at current odds.
