2015 Scone Cup Final Field and Barrier Draw

May 13th, 2015

A talented and capacity field of 16 has been confirmed for Friday’s featured 2015 Scone Cup (1600m); highlighted by the inclusion of some of the Autumn Carnival’s standout middle-distance performers.

Tales Of Grimm stamped his claims as a serious competitor with a resounding first-up victory, and while failing to make much of an impact in two subsequent starts, is offered a great chance of 2015 Scone Cup success from barrier 3.

Posting three wins and two minors through 19 career starts, Tales Of Grimm began his racing career in Britain before transferring to the care of Sam Kavanagh following his 2014 campaign.

Taking out the Hong Kong Racehorse Owners Trophy (1200m) with ease on February 7th, the Distorted Humour gelding was unable to handle the racing conditions when midfield in each of the Blackwoods Bosch Blue Handicap (1350m) and Royal Randwick 100 (1400m) but is sure to relish a firm racing surface and just 54kgs.

Godolphin Australia has recorded notable feature race success this season and are offered three good chances of winning the 2015 Scone Cup via Malice (barrier 4), San Diego (barrier 15) and Medcaut (barrier 2).

Malice was unlucky to be blocked for a run late when seventh in the Listed Lord Mayor’s Cup (2000m) but has found competitive black type form this time, most notably when second in the Group 3 Doncaster Prelude (1500m).

San Diego has finished outside the first three only a handful of times through his 13 career starts to date and has found great form leading into the Scone Cup; running fourth in the Royal Randwick 100 and a close second in the One Solutions Handicap (1350m) on May 9th.

Medcaut was set to jump favourite in the Group 3 Hawkesbury Gold Cup a fortnight ago before the meeting was abandoned and is sure to lay a typically great account for himself in the Scone Cup from his ideal draw.

Strawberry Boy (barrier 7) has found competitive form since transferring to the care of Chris Waller but will have to overcome 58.5kgs for success in the 2015 Scone Cup.

Taking out this Listed Ladies Day Cup (1400m) in his first start for the Rosehill-based trainer in November, the Redoute’s Choice gelding has since finished outside the places just once and appears primed for a return to the winner’s circle on Friday.

Kourkam has been allocated the rails draw for the 2015 Scone Cup while Lucky Lago has been charged with overcoming the wide and awkward barrier 16.
