Tales Of Grimm jumped from the gates only fairly in the 2015 Scone Cup, but worked into a good position slightly better than midfield over the back straight; allowing early leaders Strawberry Boy, Monton and Medcaut to set a reasonable early tempo.

Jockey Craig Williams steadily led the Distorted Humour gelding forward rounding onto the final straight; offered a clear racing line before pulling clear of the main pack.

Appearing to have the race won with 200m to travel, Tales Of Grimm was joined at the fore of the field by a fast-finishing Frespanol; momentarily dropping back to second but musting an impressive kick to win the Scone Cup by the bob of a head.

Trainer Sam Kavanagh was on hand for Tales Of Grimm’s impressive Scone Cup triumph and was understandably thrilled with the six-year-old’s performance.

“We’ve had a tough few months so this is a pretty big result,” Kavanagh said.

“We laid this horse out for this three months ago so it’s nice when a plan comes together.

“He’s shown us a lot at home, he’s had his share of issues … I’m just glad to win a big race with him.

“He was stiff at Randwick last run but I’ve had him ready for this race for the last few weeks.

“He put the writing on the wall today; he tried hard and fought back so it was a good win, good ride.

“It’s great come here to Scone, a lot of the breeders get behind us and help us get to where we are, so it’s nice to come back on their day and win one of the main races.”

In taking out the 2015 Scone Cup, Tales Of Grimm has now won four of his 20 career starts; finishing in the minors a further two times.
